Faire Du Ski

I have been off and away recently, in terms of blogging as i have been working hard on my A levels (minus french, monitoring back and it was BAD). Speaking of French, last week were the easter holidays which have been unfortunately prolonged for most people because of being abandoned but the government and the Euro Star workers and left to fend for themselves. Those with a lot of money or little sense and desperation got a taxi home, wow, do you miss this England that much?

We were some of the lucky ones as my dad took us skiing in the first week to the french alps, and my god it was wonderful. I have been skiing since i was two as my dad lied to the ski school saying i was four, i was a large toddler. So this was my fifteenth year! Here are some snaps from the trip! Bon Appetite.....

My mother busted both cruciate ligaments skiing and so me and Siobhan, yellow hat, just happen to steal most of her 80's ski wear, personally i think they are fantastic!

For Fancy Friends

Today the sun came out and we played outside, gone are the cold days and the useless unpredictable weather and the loss of handbag space through need of a brolly. No today we wore short sleeves and sat in the grass. Today the girls chatted on the the sunlit patio as the boys played basket ball alongside, it was so beautiful.

Today's wonderful weather made me think about my friends and how the weather changes people so my post today is a tribute to my fancy friends in all their weathery wonder....
And as the sun goes down on this day in Surrey i just think about Black Eyed Peas cos i've got a feeling our nights are goona be some good nights.....wooohooo

Exam Time

So today i was given my exam paper for textiles......shit. Ok so the choice for textiles was organic forms, surfaces, rangoli pattern ( can someone please explain what that actually is) so i thought hey why not choose a topic where i can teach myself things?

Therefore i went with surfaces i was going through our little library my art teacher has at the back of her cupboard and i found this fantastic book! The manipulating usage withing these pages and the simplicity they are described in makes it the bible for naughty textile armies....i am in awe. I could learn to pleat like the s/s'10 Yves Saint Laurent collection, the detail put in by Mr Pilati-I applaud you sir.

I want to really learn something but sadly will have to teach myself-thinking about it that will be great, i like to teach myself new things-fantastical (will explain the over use of fantastic later perhaps?)

Im excited about the Whitewash that has fallen like snow over the catwalks this spring. White brings a fresh canvas like untouched snow, clean sheets or even unused cartridge paper, the aspect of being just white brings so many ideas, making you just want to touch them!

Handy too in thoughts to the recession, or shall i say almost recession, we are after all people of Great Britain we are 0.01% outside of the recession margin, just in time for the end of January Sales eh? I think this spring designers are being sympathetic to those who cannot afford to purchase NEW clothes and the daunting prospect of falling back into debt over a beautiful Rochas Mini Dress or an architcural piece by the amazing Jil Saunder. But the trick is coming from the monochrome of winter we are just phasing into white ahh spring lambs in this weather though you will most definately look like spring chicken-thats why god invented tights-rodarte, mui mui anyone?? Take Care!

Literally Dead Line

Wow, that was a tough fortnight indeed! It baffles me how many hours there are in the day yet how little time we have to do things nowadays, or at least how little time I see to have. I spent my past two weeks worrying about the prospects of not completing my fine art or textiles work in time for the deadlines. Needless to say I just about got it all done however I am in serious sleep debt and think that I am now considered a psychopath by my friends and family! But the point is, sleep is important-actually that’s not my point but I have heard that saying so much over these two weeks it is safe to say drilled into my head, so whenever there is an awkward silence between me and my friends “Sleep is important” manages to burst out. Fantastic, but what does that have to do with the price of fish?!

Not many people could understand why I walked into the sixth form block wearing odd socks under soggy pumps looking like death warmed up and covered in acrylic paint and pva glue. Hahahaa one point I became so irritated by the noise of younger years I pretended to be an art teacher and tell them all off for disturbing an exam outside the textiles studio, they believed me bless them-see theatre studies can be handy. My Fine art topic was a still life and looking back at my friend Tasha’s work of these beautiful flowers and Shannon’s studies of children’s toys or Amy’s immaculate birds, I realised that I probably thought too much about mine.

“Róisín what is your art work about?” Dad asked carefully as I sat like hunch back of Notre dame over the kitchen table painting like a lunatic, at least in the Disney film he’s gentle.
“A nostalgic view on what once was a great British Treasury.” I mumble, loosing the capability to converse with human beings.
“Oh Right…are you sure you’re not putting all your eggs into one basket?” he suggested.
“NO!” that was the clearest thing I’d said for a fair few days.

My work focused on, well it was self explanatory. I initially had no idea to be honest at the beginning of the topic so I just started drawing folds of material and earrings I found in a treasure chest I keep in my room. I wasn’t till I noticed the on going use of Red, Blue, Purple and Gold; I though aha these are luxurious looking colours lets stem off from here-in my best authorative sounding male voice.

But the point is all the work done, funny thing was my final piece was so obviously mine as it was a brown chest I buggered up too make it look old, to be honest I accidentally broke it :D  Textiles went well I got my finger stuck in the sowing machine and it got infected-that was a sight so sore eyes, literally. Then there was the fact I ripped the nail bed apart on another finger and rubbed away at three layers of skin on my thumb-this is the price for frantic dedication ladies and gentlemen. However art is something that brings me to life and just wrapping myself up in a large piece of fabric, no care for what it is generates the feeling of happiness and so I am inspired to go crazy on paper…even better when one has had no sleep.
